Senior Ladies Championship - Match Report

Championship v Man O War

Date: 07.09.2022

We still had an outside chance of qualifying for the Championship semi-final if we had a big win in this game. We were missing Aine Gilmore, Emily Dawson, and Sinead Cullen who all played a big part in this championship run so we needed a big effort from the whole squad to get us over the line in this game.

The first 10 minutes were a bit sloppy but we then had a fortunate goal from Lyndsey giving us a 1-2 to 0-2 lead. This seemed to spur us on and with some great defending again led by our captain Saoirse Kavanagh and attacking play at the pace we racked up another 2 goals, 1 each from Megan Carroll and Cathy Coleman, and 5pts, 4 from Lyndsey to give us a lead at half time 3-7 v 0-5 . If we could do the same in the 2nd half that outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals would definitely have been within our grasp.

There was a big wind against us in the 2nd half but we started well and had a great team move finished off with another goal from Lyndsey.

After that, the wheels came off a bit letting Man O War back into the game with some very sloppy play gifting them with some very easy scores. The momentum definitely shifted in their favour and with 7 minutes to go, they got another easy goal to draw level. To the girl's credit, we went straight up the field and got a great point scored by Patricia Ferguson. We then regained a bit of composure and had a great turnover in the half-back line quickly getting the ball in Lyndsey and she finished the game off with a well-taken goal. We were delighted with the win (5-9 v 4-8) but unfortunately, we lost out on the points difference to qualify for the Championship Semis.

However we now have a nice home draw in the Shield Semi-final v Lucan Sarsfields this coming Wednesday, so hopefully, we will have a big crowd down supporting the girls and fingers crossed cheering them on into the Final.

U13 Camogie Girls went out good and strong last Sunday 4th September.

Both teams did exceptionally well for their return to play, away to Fingallians and Kilmacud Crokes.. Unfortunately, not to be their win but their attitude and positivity won out on the day! That’s what we want to see…

Well done girls! Keep up the strength.
