Weekly Club Notes - 19/03/2023

Fixtures, Results & Training

With the Bank holiday weekend, there were no match fixtures for our Juvenile Boys teams, and the closure of Townparks, Ballast Pit & Kellys Bay impacted scheduled Juvenile LGFA Fixtures.

The AHL4 team took on St Finians (N) on Thursday night under the lights at the main pitch and despite falling behind 1-2 to no score in the first ten minutes, the team rallied, played some good football and emerged winners in front of the home crowd who turned out to support. Our AFL1 team travelled to 12th Lock to take on Lucan Sarsfields for a Sunday morning fixture and the first half for both sides was a slow affair, with the second half seeing Lucan take hold and win out eventually with a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-7 at the final whistle.

MHL3 recorded a draw away against Craobh Chiarain this morning in Clonshaugh

Mentors are advised that as council pitches will be closed until at least Friday 24th March, training slot allocations may be impacted. As always please keep an eye on www.skerriesharps.com/training for pitch availability updates . For all the latest match fixtures visit www.skerriesharps.com/fixtures-results

St Patricks Day Festivities 2023

It was great to see so many new & familiar faces enjoying the St Patrick's Day festivities on Friday last at the Club. Our youngest members participated in the Skerries parade, and it was fantastic to see our Allstars lead out the parade followed by our u8-u12 teams. Preparations began at 1.30pm and at 2.15pm the huge group of parents, players & supporters, with faces painted and flags at the ready, made their way to the South Strand to take their position in the line up.

The rain didn't dampen spirits as the teams returned to the clubhouse after the parade, for some treats and some fun activities on the pitch - the mentors ensured that the Púc Fada & Crossbar Challenges kept the kids occupied, with prizes up for grabs (Storm in a teacup vouchers), while the parents & families enjoyed the BBQ and Craic in the Bar & Marquee area.

Well done to Shane O'Brien winner of the u10 Boys Púc Fada Competition

Thanks to all who supported the BBQ, which raised funds for our Allstars & Youth Cafe, two hugely important aspects of our club community, ensuring that we continue with our One Club ethos, welcoming all in the local area to become part of our Club family.

Thanks to all our players, parents, mentors & Academy Coaches who came together to make the event a memorable one!

Finally, an event of the scale of our St Patrick's Day festivities cannot happen without a huge amount of organization behind the scenes - huge thanks to Odharnait, Jonathan, Jackie, Denise, Aine and the team for all their hard work ! Its very much appreciated - we are already looking forward to 2024!!
