Heartbreaking result after extra time Skerries Harps 3-05 Naomh Barrog 3-06 Last Sunday.
The under 16A camogie team travelled to Kilbarrack on Sunday to face Naomh Barrog in their Championship semi-final. The girls started well getting a quick point from play, to give them a bit of a start. But Barrogs responded well with a goal shortly after, this was to be the story of the match. The girls traded score for score with each other in a physical well fought battle. The Harps girls were behind by a point at half time. The second half went much the same way with lovely scores from both sides. It was a huge effort and the lead swayed to each side. The final whistle went and it was all square at the finish time, on a scoreline of 2-04-2-04 each. This semi-final had to be decided on the day, so after playing 60 tough minutes of camogie the girls had to face another 20 minutes. The Harps girls gained the upper hand in the 1st quarter and were first to score in extra time and we went 3-05 - 2-04 up. The second half of extra time started and the girls were pushed all the way. In a nail biting finish Barrogs threw everything at our girls and they again traded scores, it was all square with 2 minutes of extra time to play. Heartbreakingly Barrogs got a free and they went ahead by a point. With the time running out and despite a valiant effort it just wasn't to be! After having played a little over 80 minutes of camogie Barrogs clinched it. None of the girls left anything on the pitch, they absolutely did the club proud and with the finest of margins exited the Championship!! Final score Skerries Harps 3-05 Barrogs 3-06. A fine example of camogie played in great spirit by both sides and a very hard one to lose!! So proud of all the girls as always!!
However this was a tremendously successful season for the girls having only lost one other match all year before today's battle. They won the league and only lost the championship semi-final by the tightest of margins!! Roll on Minor camogie!!
