Skerries Harps 3-10 – 2-05 Ballyboden St Enda’s

The adult camogie had a difficult start to the year, but we put it behind us and got down to doing what we do best….playing camogie. So, when championship started, we went at it as hard as we could, unfortunately however with 2 very narrow losses and 1 win, we ended up going the shield route.

On a very blustery Sunday morning we lined out for the final v Ballyboden St Enda’s. Our adult camogie team is a very young group of ladies ranging in ages from 16 and the oldest playing Sunday was 19, but in true Harps fashion they gave it their all. We had 22 players available to play which included 3 players from the underage girls, who have been with us for most of this year, and we cannot thank them enough, so huge thanks to Ellen Ryan, Millie Levins and Caoimhe Emmett.

It was nip and tuck from the start, but our midfield players of Alex Ward and Hannah McGinnis got on top, their movement and distribution of the ball was fantastic, and they ran their hearts out from start to finish. Mia Rice got the opening point for the Harps ladies, and this was followed by some well taken placed balls by Alex Ward. We were ahead at halftime, on a scoreline of 1-08 1-01. We faced the very strong sun and the wind in the 2nd half, but the ladies pushed on winning out 3-10-2-05. Scores for the Harps came from Mia Rice, Alex Ward, Hannah McGinnis, Hannah Lockhart and Caoimhe Emmett. The game was a tight game, but the ladies stuck at it from start to finish, the quality of  our free taking and  some beautiful sidelines taken by Aoife Donohue was thanks to the time they put in at training. Every girl on the team from the starting 15 to the finishing 15 gave it their all.

The defence stuck at their task with getting the ball out of our half as quick as they could. On several occasions they had to battle to get the ball away from the Boden forwards. Our goalie Keela Feehily got her puckouts out and made sure to give the ladies a chance to get their breathe back. Our forwards kept plugging away, but the Boden defence stood strong and denied them several scores. The vast majority of this  group of ladies have been together since u8 camogie, and we are so proud of each and every one of them. It was a huge ask, especially now that we had 2 of them who travelled down from colleges in the North to line out for their team, a huge thanks to both Grace El Shamy and Aoife Donohue, we are sure you would have preferred to be slumming it in college instead of being on the pitch at 9.30 am on a Sunday morning.

It took a lot of commitment from each and every one of you and as always, we are so proud of you all. Some more silverware to add to the u21 championship title that you won last year!!  Well done ladies, thanks as always to everyone who supported us throughout the year!

Thanks to Oonagh Ward & Michael Donoghue for report & Pics
